We are looking for an instructor to take Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at our barn in Wilsonville, teaching group lessons on our school horses.
The work. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 2:00 to 7:00, up to five lessons an afternoon and evening. Groups of four to five, mostly kids, some adults. Riders range from first timers through our most experienced, so we need someone comfortable across the whole range and confident with the advanced end. You teach on our horses. The barn assigns riders to lessons, so you are never in the middle of a family negotiating their way into a class.
The barn. Eighteen working school horses, one arena, a lesson program that is full with a waitlist. We are in the middle of real work to make the experience better for our riders, our coaches and our horses, and we want an instructor who wants to be part of that rather than just handed a schedule.
Process. A phone call, then come and teach one lesson with us and see how it feels from both sides. References before a start date.
To apply, email marentunks@gmail.com or text the barn at (804) 280-3696, with a note about your own riding background, where you have taught, what levels you are comfortable with, and any certification you hold or are working toward.
Requirements
You. Experienced teaching group lessons to children, and able to teach our more advanced riders. Certification is welcome, and so is being on your way to one. Demonstrated teaching is what we are actually assessing. You will need to be reliable on the same three days every week, which is deliberate: we want someone who can plan their own life around this rather than being called whenever there is a hole.
