Camp Chateaugay, a premier co-ed residential summer camp for ages 7–17, is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Ranch / Horseback Riding Director to lead our English-style equestrian program. This full-time residential position runs from early June through mid-August 2027 at our working ranch in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains.
Facilities Include: • 10–12 well-trained horses • Two fully equipped barns • Professional sand riding arena • Dedicated jump field • Scenic trail network • Spacious turnout paddocks
The Role: As Ranch Director, you will lead a team of 3 experienced riding counselors/ranch hands and oversee an engaging program for approximately 40 campers, ranging from beginners to advanced riders, including campers ready to jump small courses.
Camper Instruction & Program Development: • Teach grooming, tacking, stable management, and horse care • Instruct riders in walk, trot, canter, and introductory jumping • Plan engaging activities including trail rides and special events/performances • Help organize potential off-site field trips • Oversee our extensive riding options and stable management program for dedicated horse enthusiasts • Develop curriculum and program structure with creative freedom
Staff & Ranch Management: • Supervise, mentor, and support riding counselors/ranch hands • Coordinate staff schedules and professional development • Manage daily ranch operations, maintenance, and horse care • Ensure the safety and well-being of campers, staff, and horses • Maintain equipment, barns, arenas, and facilities to a high standard
Compensation & Benefits: • $4,000–$7,000 salary, depending on experience and qualifications • Private accommodation • All meals provided • Supportive, inclusive community of diverse international staff
