Fairfield Equine is seeking an experienced, energetic, and motivated Lead Hospital Technician to join our equine hospital team in Newtown, CT.
The ideal candidate has experience working with horses in a veterinary setting, excellent horse-handling skills, and demonstrated leadership and organizational abilities. This position will oversee the hospital team while supporting patient care, scheduling, client communication, and daily hospital operations.
Fairfield Equine is a multi-veterinarian equine sports medicine practice offering lameness, surgery, MRI, scintigraphy, 24-hour emergency care, ambulatory services, wellness, and advanced diagnostic imaging.
Key Responsibilities Lead and support the hospital technician team, including scheduling, onboarding, training, and staff check-ins. Coordinate hospital appointments, veterinarian schedules, admissions, discharges, client communications, and referring veterinarian records. Assist with patient care, examinations, imaging, procedures, and daytime surgeries as needed. Ensure hospital cleanliness, organization, and appropriate stocking of supplies, feed, and bedding. Monitor hospital invoices, client balances, deposits, and payments. Manage inventory and ordering of essential hospital supplies. Coordinate surgery and holiday on-call schedules and participate in the on-call rotation. Communicate weekend staffing schedules and hospital maintenance needs. Promote teamwork, problem-solving, efficiency, and a high standard of patient care.

Requirements
Qualifications Experience working with horses in a veterinary setting preferred. Equine veterinary technician experience and/or LVT certification a plus. Strong horse-handling skills and experience with horses of various disciplines. Previous leadership experience strongly preferred. Excellent communication, customer service, and organizational skills. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Self-motivated, dependable, and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds for short distances and jog horses for lameness examinations. Show horse background preferred.
