Duties of Current Occupation
I teach dance to children and adults with the goal of facilitating choreographic strategies, culminating in informal performances or showings. I weave concepts from this artistic performance realm while mentoring college students with disabilities.
Equine Work Experience
My name is Emily Hatfield, and I have been serving GallopNYC as a lesson support and barn staff volunteer since April of last year. I hold a MFA in performance and choreography from SUNY Brockport with my creative work centering accessibility practices in dance, utilizing disability studies as a framework to facilitate activities across disciplines. Professional work in horse care/ therapeutic horseback riding is a logical next step, in which I feel working with horses is a calling, not merely a job.
Volunteering with Gallop has provided opportunities to learn and become proficient in basic horse care; feeding, watering, grooming, turn in-out, as well as all aspects of lesson support.
Additionally, as a beginner/intermediate rider with teaching experience, I am interested in pursuing a teacher certification program to become certified to teach recreational riding with the possibility of moving into the PATH certification for therapeutic riding.
Thank you for your time.
Specialities
I have experience leading a team from serving as an arts educator in a multitude of environments. My ingrained dance training has left me with an eye for detail and a grit to strive for excellence. I have experience with quick mucking and yard prep.
Type of Ride Work
Western style, beginner, sole charge horse caretaker (references on resume)
Competition Details
No competitions. I am returning to a past love and passion as a beginner, but I have references who can testify to my rapid progression and heartfelt desire to bond with horses in the name of prioritizing their needs above those of rider or trainer.
