Duties of Current Occupation

Therapeutic Riding Volunteer

  • Led horses during lessons for riders with disabilities. -Prepared horses for lessons, camp and more. -Assisted riders with mounting, balance, and communication. -Helped manage multiple horses/riders in a lesson.
Equine Work Experience

I have been riding since age 7 with experience in both English and Western disciplines. I am comfortable jumping up to around 3 feet and have participated in a small Western competition where I earned two medals, in barrel racing and pole weaving. I have leased horses during multiple summers, which gave me more independent riding experience and a deeper understanding of horse care and responsibility. I have also taken lessons and ridden for many years at Riverdale Stables, which has made me very familiar with structured lesson programs and busy barn routines. In addition, I volunteered at a therapeutic riding center where I guided horses for riders with disabilities and supported instructors during lessons. Through all of this, I’ve gained experience working around different types of horses, understanding their behavior, and maintaining a safe and controlled environment in both individual and group settings.

Specialities

I have experience riding a variety of horses, some high-strung and energetic, some more on the lazy side. I’ve assisted in structured lesson environments and worked closely with instructors while guiding riders in a therapeutic riding program. I’m comfortable handling horses safely, managing responsibilities in busy barn settings, and adapting to different rider needs.

Type of Ride Work

Flatwork and jumping, comfortable jumping up to around 3 feet, with experience riding in structured lesson programs and during summer leases. I have worked on flatwork basics such as control, balance, and transitions, as well as course work over fences. I also have a background in Western riding and have participated in a small barrel racing competition. My experience comes from consistent riding in lesson settings and working with a range of school horses with different temperaments.

Competition Details

I have participated in a small Western competition and a few low stake jumping competitions. While I do not have experience working in competition yards or as a competition groom, I am familiar with preparing for shows and am eager to gain more experience.
