Mercer Island Funny Farm Caretaker(s) Position

The Mercer Island Funny Farm is seeking a motivated, dependable Caretaker(s) to help keep our animals, barn, and property running smoothly each day. We are a unique equestrian and event farm located on the south end of the Mercer Island. Our property of 5 acres includes 12 horses, 5 chickens, 5 bunnies, and event spaces. The Funny Farm is a private property that operates a Hunter / Jumper Lesson Program (no showing) pony parties, and private rentals. This role is ideal for someone who has extensive horse handling experience and will enjoy a family fun environment while also taking pride in organization, communication, and property upkeep. The Caretaker(s) will assist with daily animal care, support our lesson program and farmhands, coordinate schedules and maintenance needs, manage basic administrative tasks, and serve as trusted eyes on the property after business hours. We are looking for someone proactive, responsible, and willing to jump in wherever needed to help maintain a safe, welcoming, and well-cared-for farm. The ideal candidate(s) for this opportunity would be an individual or couple who have experience working with horses, and/or property management. This position also comes with a beautiful 2-bedroom house on site, with utilities included.

II. Qualifications:

• Must be 21+ • Minimum of 5+ Years of Horse Handling Experience • 2+ Years of Barn / Farm Work Experience • Management Experience Preferred but not required • Ability to lift 50+ Lbs • Must have Valid Driver’s License *Background check required to qualify for position.

II. Roles and Responsibilities:

Animal Duties Include:

• The Caretaker(s) will assist with daily farm duties. This includes horse, chicken, and bunny care, and assist with special projects.

• The Caretaker(s) will be the first people to fill in and assist with duties should a farmhand call in sick or take vacation, or in the case of horse emergencies until owner can be present. This does include being available on weekends occasionally. • Move Hay from Garage to Hay Room in Barn • Drag arena with Gator Management Duties Include: • Turn In Weekly Timesheets to Accounting Department
• Work with MIFF staff to identify farm needs and create plans to get needs accomplished. • Manage Farmhand staff work schedules • Assist with the scheduling of property repairs and maintenance as needed.

Administrative Duties Include: • Assist Owner with all orders that pertain to animal, barn, and property needs • File MIFF related receipts, invoices, and pertinent papers related to horse care, and or property care. • Manage MIFF email, and ensure that all inquiries are either answered or forwarded to the correct recipient to ensure communications are met Property Duties Include: • The Caretaker (s) will be responsible for the property after Funny Farm Business Hours • The Caretaker (s) will be responsible for addressing property needs as they arise • Assist with property projects (example: pressure washing, and track system maintenance) • The Caretaker (s) will be the “eyes on property” and will walk the property on a regular basis to ensure property upkeep.
